Frequently Asked Questions

Dakota Media Access is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that runs PEG (Public, Education, Government) Access Television. That means that we are dedicated to providing the Bismarck-Mandan area with open access to local information and opportunity through media.

In addition to providing recordings of local government meetings for all surrounding municipalities, we work with local producers to create original programming for our channels and radio station (Radio Access).

DMA’s mission is to produce, promote, and distribute local programming; provide equipment and technology services; and create collaborations that strengthen the community.

Dakota Media Access is primarily funded by a franchise fee assessed upon the local cable provider by the Bismarck and Mandan City Commissions as compensation for the use of the public right of way to install cable throughout the cities.

In addition to paying a franchise fee, the cable company also makes channel space available for DMA.

As we see cable subscriptions fall, we rely more on the support of other local government organizations, donations, and underwriting to continue to provide opportunities outside of our government relations.

If you would like to help support our operations, a specific program, or service, we would greatly appreciate any support, either through a donation or through volunteering.

You! Anyone is welcome to create a program for us.

Programs are made by volunteer producers either independently or through a partnership with Dakota Media Access.

If you have a program you would like to air on Dakota Media Access or would like to start one, find out how at the link below!
